World War II and Totalitarianism
New political regimes were established around 1919. Totalitarianism became the general theme of extremist European politics. Fascism and Communism became violent governments involved in every social, economic, and political aspect of their citizen's lives. Totalitarian governments would promise improved living standards, but cause massive devastation once created. Stalin's violent communist Soviet regime killed millions of Russians, and Adolf Hitler's fascist Nazi regime killed millions of Jews, handicapped, socialists, and much more in his infamous Holocaust. As Germany created a massive empire focused around racial purity and anti-Semitism, other countries were too scared to step in for fear that Germany would attack them as well. In 1945 all closes as the Allied powers step in to defeat the massive empires.
